I was getting ready to enter the maintenance
yard of the development that I live in, you have to swipe your card to open the gate. That was when I spotted a French chest being carried to the dumpster. I said stop! as I tried to swipe my card, it didn't take, I shouted stop! as I tried it again. Of course no one could hear me, so they started taking the drawers out, they took out the first drawer, and I'm saying no, no, then the second.
Anyway, by the time I got to them they had thrown all four drawers in the dumpster. When I told them I wanted it, they climbed into the dumpster and got the drawers for me. They even loaded it in my car. It would still be there if my sister, Linda, and her husband hadn't come to visit me and brought it inside. It was the chest that I've been looking for, matches my bedroom perfectly.
Needless to say, a couple of the drawers needed a little glue. And they were a little rough, but had the curvy drawers that I love.
I decided to paint it blue, a light blue. I don't have painted furniture in my bedroom, so I wrestled with the decision, but it really needed paint. I did the trim in gold. I still need to touch up a little, but I've touched up, painted, touched up, etc, until I'm tired.
So here it is, I really like the way it turned out. Hope you do too.
Till Nest Time,
Jeannie

Jeannie
That is a good story! I can't believe they were throwing it out!!! Luckily you were at the right place at the right time! Great save!
ReplyDeleteGood Moring Karen, In the development where I live, my neighbors throw away wonderful pieces, if only I had a truck, I'd take it all to GW. Almost every week there are oriental carpets, desks, chairs galore, new sofas and tables...anyway, you would love it. Unfortunately, the trash trucks take it all away.
DeleteHave a great day, and thank you for stopping by.
Jeannie
I'm so glad they rescued it for you, Jeannie! What a great piece of furniture. :) If you haven't already, I'd love if you'd come join my How To Tuesday link party, too.

DeleteWow it's gorgeous! Great save! - Susan
ReplyDeleteHi Susan, Thank you so much for your kind words.
DeleteJeannie
So cute! I'm glad you got it. I found a four drawer version nearly just like it in someone's front yard and got it too. It had been painted appallingly, so it took a while to get all of that off, and it's missing one of the handles, sadly. I love those and have to keep my eye out for one so I can finish that dresser off one of these days. I hope you get a lot of great use out of those sweet curvy drawers.
ReplyDeleteLiz
Wow Jeannie what a find! You did a beautiful job painting it and I especially like the gold trim. Thanks so much for joining us at Transformed Tuesday. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Peggy

ReplyDeleteJeannie
it looks Fabulous! Great Job!
ReplyDeleteHi Orlando, Thank you so much for stopping by, and your kind comments. I'm going to go check you out rigt now.
ReplyDeleteJeannie
Great find, nice painting job. It looks just like a dresser my mother bought at an estate sale in 1965. It belonged to a 1920 movie star named Margaret Quimby. We had just moved into our new house and were badly in need of furniture. My mother bought it for me. I used it for years and passed it on to my daughter. Thanks for bringing back sweet memories.
