Pray For Our Wounded Warriors

Hello Again From The French Hen's Nest,

I would like to remind everyone to pray for our young men and women serving in the military.  I am reminded of the great sacrifice that they make for us every time I visit the hospital.  Most of us go about our daily lives without much thought to what is happening around the world that brings our young military members into harm's way.

Today I had an appointment at Walter Reed Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland.  As I walked into the elevator I was greeted by a good looking young man, maybe about 20 years old.  He had broad shoulders, and very muscular arms, with a couple of tattoos, maybe a Marine, or Army.  As I looked down I noticed that his legs were artificial.  Accompanying him was another good looking young man about the same age, maybe about 6' 3" tall with artificial legs as well, plus an artificial arm.  He held the elevator door open for me as I exited.  These young men are our Wounded Warriors.  Mind you, this was just the parking elevator, I hadn't even entered the hospital.  My heart breaks for these young people, and the sacrifice that they have made in the name of peace.  Is there any way that we can ever thank them?   They have come home to a different world.  Can you imagine the challenges that face them?  Or facing these challenges alone?
Unfortunately, there are thousands of our young men and women who come home from war zones that have to face these challenges.  Many have no outward signs of trauma, but they are struggling just the same.
These Wounded Warriors are sons and daughters, brothers, sisters, grandsons and granddaughters; they could be our children or grandchildren.  We need to pray that this war ends, and our young people will taken out of harm's way.  We also need to pray for their healing, and that they will have full and happy lives.

I'm sure that the US is not alone in this situation.  All of these Wounded Warriors need our prayers and our support.   I wonder how often our Congressmen or politicians visit a military hospital. They need to see  the results of the decisions they make.  Maybe that's a question we need to ask them.
While these young men and women are healing, they need their family  members near them.  Many relatives can't afford to fly or stay where the wounded are, but they are much needed to help in the healing process of these Warriors. In Bethesda, Fisher House (www.fisherhouse.org) has homes that accommodate their relatives at no cost to the family.    I really didn't mean for this to turn into an ad, but the work that Fisher House does is much needed and wonderful.

..What can we do to help in the healing?  How can we thank them for their sacrifice?   Maybe a bake sale to raise money for Fisher House?  A community event? Certainly we can all say a prayer or two.

With a heavy heart, and much thanks,

Jeannie and Linda

  3. What a beautiful thoughtful post Jeannie.................we should never need a reminder for these things - sadly we are constantly bombarded with other tragedies ( Boston - Newtown - Texas ) that what these brave young souls are doing escapes us from time to time.
Senseless - all of it is so damn senseless - and soul battering..............
    Much love,
