Thrift Store finds

Hello again from The French Hens Nest.

While shopping at Salvation Army recently I saw a stack of little boxes with photos of birds on them.

It seemed to be a collection from Hallmark.  Have you ever heard of them?

The artist and creator is Marjolein Bastin.  I do remember her pretty cards with birds on them but I had never seen the little birds.

I opened one and put them all in my basket. When I got them home and opened them all,  I was so happy that  I had.

There were 8 total and the price was right.....

That's right- 39 cents each!  I looked them up and two of them are selling for $25 and the others go for $15

Here are my other treasures found at Goodwill.....

 A needlepoint pillow.

Looks so pretty on my little pink French chair.  It cost $1.39!
(from previous hunting- chair $10 - Craigslist, green toile pillow $1.59 -GW, throw $1.39 -GW)

3 more photo frames for my planned wall arrangement.  At 59 cents, 79 cents and $2.99 they were bargains.

A pretty little plaster mirror at $2.99...

and a round mirror at $2.99.

5 beautiful damask napkins for 59 cents each!

2 yards of red and white toile fabric for $1.49!

All in all I think I had a very successful day of thrifting, don't you?

Peace to all,
Linda

  1. Good Afternoon Linda, You had an amazing day thrift shopping.....and to find the beautiful little birds, how fabulous.
I love the pink toile fabric, it is so very pretty and the damask napkins at 59c each, that is an amazing price.
Absolutely, you had a wonderful thrifting day.
    Here's to many more.
    Best Wishes

  2. Daphne, so good to hear from you. Didn't I get lucky? I couldn't believe the price on the birds! Damask napkins and tablecloths are my weakness. I must have 10 tablecloths and 30 napkins! I think it's time to give some away! It occurs to me as I get older that sharing my treasures would make more sense than hoarding them. My daughter doesn't share my love for old linens but maybe my granddaughter will.

Have a lovely day. I'm popping over to your place now! Thanks for visiting.

  3. I have to say I'm green with envy. I love EVERYTHING you got. If I ever found anything close to that at our goodwill it would be ten times more expensive. They are quite greedy here in Grand Junction, CO area at the thrift stores. Ah well, such if life
Hubs says I have too much stuff anyway, is always threatening to throw some of it away. When he says that I tell him he'd better pack his bags if he gets rid of my stuff. lol.
He's got tools he doesn't use out in shed also, hummmm.
So happy for you to have found such awesome treasures. Where do you live I must come for a thrifting visit. Glad to have found your blog thru the Monday hop on Rain on a tin roof.
    Happy Days to you both.

    1. Thank you for visiting! It was a particularly good day I have to tell you. I visit 4 Goodwill stores and each prices so differently. At the Salvation Army where I found the birds for 39 cents each, a single plate may be $10. There's no rhyme or reason! Pillows are always $1.39 and the bin where I found the fabric is always $1.39. I am in Raleigh NC. My sister, Jeannie, is in Alexandria VA and the stuff is better and cheaper! Go figure!

Have a great day and thanks for the comment!

  5. Those are beautiful and what a great find! Fun. Thanks for stopping by! I responded to your question about the peaches. They would be delish but may need a bit more cornstarch as they are juicier than the plums. Let us know!

Please come link on our Brag About It party! Open for a few more days. All the best, Denise @BeBetsy

  10. Mercy! You hit the mother lode! I had no idea that those birds were tucked inside the boxes. Love them! And the toile and needlepoint pillow... beautiful! And that is just the beginning of your haul. Give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done! My wish is for the prices to be as good as yours when I go shopping at Goodwill. They're not..sniff, sniff! I guess I will just have to live through you!

  14. Marjolein Bastin is one of my favorite artists. Hallmark has carried her cards and other items for years. I love the little birds of hers that you found. I have several things of hers...the cookie jar is probably my favorite...it is ceramic and has birds, bird's nests, bird houses, etc...in blue, randomly painted all over it.

I see that you started following my blog tonight and will return the blog love.
