Decorating a Doll House (part 1)

Hello Again from The French Hen's Nest,

Since Christmas I have been so busy painting the house, making bedspreads, bed skirts, chandeliers, decorating.  I've hardly had time for anything else.

You see, when I went home for Christmas,
I went to my storage unit, and went through the furniture and boxes that I've had stored for the past 10 years.  One of the things was a doll house that I bought about 11 years ago at an antique store.   I have been wanting to get it for the longest time, but there was never room in my car.

A work in progress

A peek through the window

It was love at first sight, a big old doll house that a father had lovingly made for his little daughter, with wood siding on the outside, dental moldings on the windows and a nice front porch.
When I first bought it

It needed some work, so I bought it hoping to restore it and thinking that my granddaughter would enjoy it one day. It is rather large, 42 inches wide, and 37 inches to the roof.
I had bought nice furniture from Bombay Company when I first got the house, and was excited to see it again.

Table set for two

Matalasse bedspread

Another four poster bed and armoire

Breakfast room furniture

Music Room furniture

Now painted pale blue with white trim, tin roof
and a heart on the door for Valentine's Day

I've had so much fun working on the house.   It is so time consuming, I still need to fix the windows, add door trim, paint the inside, hang chandeliers, polish the floors, hang curtains, and being so small it is very tedious.  But I'm really enjoying it.
My granddaughter came over the other day and played with it for an hour.  Can't wait for her to see it finished, which will be a while.

Hope you enjoyed seeing my doll house.  I'll show it to you again as I progress.   If you have a doll house, I'd love to see it.

Till Nest Time,

Jeannie

  1. This is so cute! I want one for my daughter (who is currently screaming from her crib at 11 pm and I've been trying to get her down for an hour and a half. SIGH).

    Hugs,

  3. Your doll house post caught my eye because I am about to decorate a doll house I have neglected for several years. My Aunt and Uncle helped me build it many years ago. I love what you have shared and am now inspired to get mine going.

  8. This is a really lovely dollhouse. Love the furnishings too. What a delight for your granddaughter to play with. We have a dollhouse that Grandpa made for our daughter when she was little. I'll bet I could "doll" it up and display it - no granddaughters here to play with it, though (not yet anyway). Lovely post!

  24. Oh my goodness, brings back memories seeing your doll house. I bought a house to fix up for my daughter (now 30 yrs old) but never did anything to it. Sold it in a garage sale and saw it in a Christmas Decorator's House tour later that year. Could have kicked myself, lol.

  28. OOohhh I love your dollhouse and it is going to be sp awesome when finished!

I have several- one done and two not done - the houses are but ran out of steam and energy, time and money to furnish them...have the vision but, well, we
l;'ll see. I should post about them one day, keep thinking I might and then don't.

  29. Hi Michele, thank you. You should write a post, I would love to see them. You are so right, they are so time consuming, and tedious. Mine is so heavy, that I have to get on the floor to work on it. Kind of hard to paint when you are on the floor. Just do a little here, a little there, that is my plan. Thank you so much for stopping by. Think I'll see whats going on at The Nest at Finch Rest.
